Manhattan Declaration on Climate Change.

Manhattan Declaration on Climate Change

"Global warming" is not a global crisis

We, the scientists and researchers in climate and related fields, economists, policymakers, and business leaders, assembled at Times Square, New York City, participating in the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change,

Resolving that scientific questions should be evaluated solely by the scientific method;

Affirming that global climate has always changed and always will, independent of the actions of humans, and that carbon dioxide (CO2) is not a pollutant but rather a necessity for all life;

Recognising that the causes and extent of recently observed climatic change are the subject of intense debates in the climate science community and that oft-repeated assertions of a supposed 'consensus' among climate experts are false;

Affirming that attempts by governments to legislate costly regulations on industry and individual citizens to encourage CO2 emission reduction will slow development while having no appreciable impact on the future trajectory of global climate change. Such policies will markedly diminish future prosperity and so reduce the ability of societies to adapt to inevitable climate change, thereby increasing, not decreasing, human suffering;

Noting that warmer weather is generally less harmful to life on Earth than colder:

Hereby declare:

That current plans to restrict anthropogenic CO2 emissions are a dangerous misallocation of intellectual capital and resources that should be dedicated to solving humanity's real and serious problems.

That there is no convincing evidence that CO2 emissions from modern industrial activity has in the past, is now, or will in the future cause catastrophic climate change.

That attempts by governments to inflict taxes and costly regulations on industry and individual citizens with the aim of reducing emissions of CO2 will pointlessly curtail the prosperity of the West and progress of developing nations without affecting climate.

That adaptation as needed is massively more cost-effective than any attempted mitigation and that a focus on such mitigation will divert the attention and resources of governments away from addressing the real problems of their peoples.

That human-caused climate change is not a global crisis.

Now, therefore, we recommend --

That world leaders reject the views expressed by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as well as popular, but misguided works such as "An Inconvenient Truth."

That all taxes, regulations, and other interventions intended to reduce emissions of CO2 be abandoned forthwith.

Agreed at New York, 4 March 2008

As often is the case, the truth is somewhere in the middle ground. While global warming may not be cluster f*** that is being touted by Gore and his ilk, global CO2 levels are higher now than just before the last several ice ages. And these large CO2 spikes almost always precede a climate shift (this is clearly shown in deep ice cores from the poles).

It is not prudent to believe that humans can completely shift the climate through carbon emissions in as little at a century. However it is likely we are speeding up the transition away from stability.

No, the ice core data, much touted by Gore and his ilk, shows that the rise in CO2 comes after the temperature rises. CO2 is an effect, not a cause. Saying that large CO2 spikes often precede a climate shift is ingenuous. The likes of Gore are saying there's a correlation between a large amount of smoke and your house burning down, therefore smoke was the cause.

Just subsitute 'bad weather' for climate change wherever you see it. That will give you something closer to the truth.

We've always had occasional bad weather, we will always have occasional bad weather.

The world will not end, some corporation will lose a little money, your insurance will go up a bit. You probably won't die though you might get a bit of sand in your eye.

What will happen is that the greeny liberals will lose the political clout to get their own way (i.e. drive us back to the dark ages, but not them they need their Macs and lattes to keep the wombles safe).
Expect the green liberal fuckers to get ever more shrill and desperate as the evidence goes against them.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they start to blow things up.

Olaf, yup, I'm waiting for the first green activist to take out a plane, or maybe a petrol station.

That might need to be pasted together.

I can't imagine that their little fire didn't cause more polution than the houses. The idiots like to cause trouble more than they care about the environment.

It looks like you might not have heard about the jet contrails laced with a sulfur mix. I noticed the extra flights long before 9/11 only because I wa working from home and had big windows with an excellent view from Chinatown in Manhattan across the river to New Jersey over the roof tops.

The video report was there when I viewed last week but there is only a preview clip there now. It was an online only video report. And now it's straight to DVD.

Calenta-whatsisface, you need to go and reboot your watermelon program, then go and learn how to use the English language. Maybe you can get a sub for lessons from the AGW industry - it's worth billions so should be able to spare you a few quid.

danyellawson, yes I have heard of this dimming. It came out at about the same time as the AGW hoaxers decided to rebrand themselves as concerned about 'climate change'. Basically they are scrabbling around for ways to keep their noses in the trough as AGW goes tits up. Of course, the problem with this is:

"These results suggest that contrails can suppress both daytime highs (by reflecting sunlight back to space) and nighttime lows (by trapping radiated heat). That is, they can be both cooling and warming clouds."

Even Hansen, the high-priest of AGW alarmism, admits he can't get much mileage out of this.

On a smaller scale here in Alberta we had our own eco terrorist some years ag a Mr. Wiebo Ludwig. In April 2001, Ludwig was convicted on five charges related to bombings and other forms of vandalism against oil and gas installations causing millions of dollars of damage. He was sentenced to 28 months in prison, and was paroled after serving two-thirds of his sentence. It didn't make world headlines or anything but here in Northern Alberta eco terrorism is an accident waiting to happen.
