h...there's a prequel to THE THING being made...
http://tinyurl.com/thing-nocarp
still based on Campbell's "Who Goes There"

dunno "The State". have had "Crashlander" for a year, still haven't read that Niven.vaudeviewgalor raandisisraisinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12045187732283895410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29616976.post-8120781093700813842011-03-07T22:46:46.260+00:002011-03-07T22:46:46.260+00:00Thanks for putting this up, Neal - bit of a thrill...Thanks for putting this up, Neal - bit of a thrill to see it on the RSS feed this morning!

Disco Stu - iPad is Ok for reading, but I miss the feel of paper between the fingers. I have a serious back problem though so the iPad is an efficient way to carry several books and a bunch of work stuff without going white and toppling over.

Sean - In terms of pure writing I agree with you on Niven.. The Pournelle collaborations are great reads.

Vaudeviewgalor - I think I've written pretty much all of Niven's stuff. Liked A World Out of Time too, and always hoped he'd do more with The State.

HItch - Simmons is a force of nature - I've never not enjoyed a book of his (recently read Black Hills, which while not really SF was also rather wonderful). The Endymion duet are superb, although not quite up there with the Hyperion pair. I'd strongly recommend The Terror too, which is the most chilling book I have ever read. The sense of mounting doom... My personal theory is that it a kind of prequel to The Thing. Make of that what you will.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback all, and thanks again Neal for posting my wibblings.Rob Dalbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04596906708641615113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29616976.post-37612119202513885932011-03-07T19:35:01.277+00:002011-03-07T19:35:01.277+00:00Love the Hyperion series, I understand why its in ...Love the Hyperion series, I understand why its in your list. Also, reminds me I really need to read Endymon (spellng probs wrong)

I don't see the love for Terminal World though. I love Reynolds and his Revelation series is simply brilliant, also Century Rain and Pushing Ice. I found Terminal World very weak though compared to the others. I did enjoy it but unlike say Rev Space I can never see me reading it again.Hitchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15784511986057794029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29616976.post-66137459584445492002011-03-07T19:11:01.861+00:002011-03-07T19:11:01.861+00:00"The Integeral Trees". wow...if i were t..."The Integeral Trees". wow...if i were to take a Niven, would definitely not float that one.

have you (folks) read "A World Out of Time"?vaudeviewgalor raandisisraisinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12045187732283895410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29616976.post-30960071107426636122011-03-07T17:48:37.633+00:002011-03-07T17:48:37.633+00:00Interesting choices. I have a lot of those sitting on my shelf and the ones I don't I'll probably pick up since we seem to have similar tastes.

I agree with you about Niven. I actually have signed 1st's of some of his work, including "The Integeral Trees". He's always been a great "idea" man but not really a great writer. His best work has always been his collaborations with Pournelle. .Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01573545353756118046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29616976.post-22199137762904578672011-03-07T17:20:37.328+00:002011-03-07T17:20:37.328+00:00good choices there as wellgood choices there as welltoddhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12645074986936369132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29616976.post-46648803115438777902011-03-07T09:28:55.085+00:002011-03-07T09:28:55.085+00:00Nice line up.
