I am getting seriously fucked-off with these animated adverts for things like Sun Bingo, O2 and Orange - usually sitting in the sidebar or in a banner. Every damned website I go onto where these things appear slows me down to a crawl. Half the time I have to just shut that website off and find what I wanted to move onto with a search. Bloody things.

Hi Neal
I suggest you install Adblock plus
very easy to use , it has it's own default filters.
Also when an advert appears on a page it puts a handy 'Block' icon you can click on to block either the single advert or all by that company etc.
hey presto next visit , no advert
Or, if you do want to grant the sites you visit the ad income, but don't want those cpu-intensive flash ads, use a flashblocker extension / userjs
I recommend adblock plus too. A little Firefox extension, it takes less than a minute to download and install but it makes surfing that much more enjoyable.
And another one for firefox and adblock plus. There seems to be a pattern here ;)
Thanks all, I'll give that a go. I just hope it doesn't cause any problems as other Firefox extensions have for me.
Nice - that seems to have done the trick. I love the fact that so many of my readers are more IT literate than me!
noscript or adblock plus for firefox generally work wonders, neal.
I use Photobucket a lot and hate the sodding bingo or poker games sites ads, often scantily clad bimbos offering a glimpse of the boobies.
