I've been meaning to say something about this for some time. Many of you may know about Dave Langford's
Ansible - you've maybe read some of his articles in various magazines. I get this newsletter by email and get filled in on the various doings in the SF world. Particularly enjoyable are 'How Others See us' in which he records the ludicrous statements of those who don't want to be accused of science fiction, and 'Thog', in which he points out some of the silly errors many fiction writers make (still waiting to be thogged).
Dave Langford is an erstwhile weapons physicist, fan and fiction writer and recipient of an embarrassing number of Hugos.

I love Ansible. Also worth reading are his SFX olumns archived on his site.

ReplyDeleteAnd his collections of reviews, critiques, short stories and marginalia are the best around IMO. I particularly like 'The Silence of the Langford', it's hilarious.
In fact, we may eventually need to put up a statue to Mr Langford for services to SF.
I love most of it, though the obituaries seem to be getting longer and longer!

ReplyDeleteDavid, okay, I didn't mean the obituaries were getting longer, just the list of names in the obituaries section! Personally I'd like my obituary to be something like this: Neal Asher was declared physically dead at age 120 after his consciousness was loaded to a Golem chassis.
