Flames Of Herakleitos

Well, it seems a regular visitor here is climbing that rickety ladder into the publishing world. Congratulations to Bob Lock for getting his book Flames Of Herakleitos published by Screaming Dreams.

Here’s the blurb:

It’s 1969 and a four year old girl witnesses the terrifying death of her father, which is attributed to Spontaneous Human Combustion. The child is unable to explain what she saw, and shortly after the incident, whilst in hospital, almost suffers the same fate as her father when she is attacked by an unknown entity. But she survives.

Thirty years pass, Lucy Fenton, has grown up to be a writer of horror stories and is the star of their film versions. She is haunted by the morbid feeling that her long-ago attacker has not yet finished with her. It turns out she is correct when once again it visits her. This time, however, she manages to not only fight it off but to pursue it – to a parallel world where everything she has ever known is turned on its head.

Flames Of Herakleitos is a 'YouWriteOn.com Top Ten Book'
Due to be published in paperback by Screaming Dreams in 2007

It's as good as bought.

Read "Blindsight" after you pimped it ages ago and really enjoyed it.

Recently finished "Crystal Rain" after yours and others pimpage. I was blown away, f*cking excellent book. He can keep em comin and I'll keep buying.

Oh and add "Scarnight" (Fan-F*cking-Tastic) to the list of books I've bought coz Neal Asher told me to!

I read through the typescript, which I recollect as being enjoyable, but haven't seen it after the editorial process and publication. I put this up here because Bob is a frequent visitor and (sorry Bob) I can't recommend it with the same enthusiasm as Scar Night, Blindsight & Crystal Rain because I simply haven't seen the finished product.

Hi Neal,
Many thanks for mentioning my debut novel on the site, much appreciated (don't worry about the enthusiasm!) I wouldn't dare put myself in the same class as the other writers you've recommended.

Scar Night was thoroughly enjoyable and hopefully I'll get around to reading Blindsight soon.

I just hope whoever reads 'Flames' enjoys it as much as I did writing it.
Best wishes,
Bob

I see Tobias has made the Nebula "long" list.

Pretty impressive.

Good attitude, Bob. I'll also add that there's plenty being published by major publishers and who end up on award shortlists who ain't up to your standard. Cheers.

Many congratulations to Bob from everyone at Arts Council funded YouWriteOn.com, and thanks to Neal for giving our readers the opportunity to read Bob’s work – Bob joined YouWriteOn by following a link that Neal put on the TTA forum.

Bob was one of the first of our new writers to enter YouWriteOn’s Top Ten and Best Sellers Chart with his opening chapters of Flames of Herakleitos , rated there by fellow writers. He won a critique from Whitbread nominated author Phil Whitaker.

It was very interesting to see Bob cross the genre barrier on the site, and be enjoyed by genre and non-genre fans alike.

Bob was in the running for our Arts Council funded Book of the Year Award, but has beaten us to it by getting published already! We’re delighted of course, and if you’d like to read Bob’s opening chapters from Flames of Herakleitos that readers rated so highly, visit our Best Sellers Chart.

Congratulations and Good luck, Bob!
