Neal Asher Video Clip 24/3/2013

Ah, got it at last after much screwing around. I warn you this is over 20 minutes of burbling...

Update: Okay, Laszlo has started off with a question in the comments, which is what I wanted people to do anyway. If you could all ask some more questions for the next video clip that's be great.

MORE QUESTIONS PLEASE!

Damn it, missed out on submitting my question for the video. Here it is anyway... The Other Gun seems to end on the note that the Prador now have their hands on a game changing weapon/tech. Is this development worked into the Penny Royal series or future Polity books overall? Thanks....Laszlo

At the end of The Voyage of the Sable Keech segments of the dreaded hooder end up in the water on Spatter Jay . Might anything happen with these ? I'm thinking hooper hooders :)

Unlike Peter F. Hamilton who charts out and plans every scene in his books before he starts to write you have on countless occasions stated you 'write at the keyboard', as the story takes you.

Do you think there are any problems with a writing style like yours? Struggling to keep things straight or continuity errors sneaking in? (Vulture *cough* *cough*)

i sort of know the kind of answer one gets when asking these specific upcoming novel spoilers, but answer this anyways since i didnt want to ask this. your PLEA was so DEMANDING for questions forcing this burning missive.

talk about Henrietta the dinosaur and her gang for a good 6 minutes. thank you. i knew you could.

What is this continuity issue with Vulture that Mulder speaks of ? I didn't notice it but then like most Americans I read the Cormac books out of order .

I'm sorta curious as to what would happen if a Hooder got infected with the Spatterjay virus as well, but having just finished the Shadow of the Scorpion, I was wondering why you didn't expand more on that epic battle that is hinted at as happening in the end. Amistad is a badass and I would have loved to see him with guns smokin ...along with his soldier in arms!

One here from Kirby Ubben: "ok, you and several other current sci fi authors are in a hunger games like scenario. who do you kill first? and who to work with?"

Do you plan to do any more novels in the Owner universe once the trilogy is complete?

If you could live in a sci-fi universe that has been created by another author, which would you choose?

North American authors seem to have a very liberal bias with regards to "global warming" and the "evidence" for it. Eg. John Scalzi, Peter Watts, etc. In their books they seem to present, at least through their protagonists, very level headed views, yet on their blogs they're outspoken critics of anyone who questions any of the current, publicly prevalent and accepted "green" views, which seems to be the majority liberal progressive view in NA. Are you friends with any of these authors? Or is it more of a respectful distant acknowledgement between peers at the top of their game? Have you ever exchanged opinions with any of them on this topic?

Neal, this seems to be a topic that many science fiction writers shy away from, so please feel free to ignore the question.

How 'easy' is it to make a living from science fiction writing? I'm not talking about the creative aspect, but more about the numbers of books you have to sell. Obviously there are the mega-sellers like Peter Hamilton, Iain Banks etc. I was wondering how far below those two that a writer could be and still be able to make a living from science fiction writing, as it's a rather niche genre anyway.

@ Tasty Rabbit: I'm just pedantic, it's something I noticed, but it doesn't/didn't seem to bother anyone else.

Between BRASS MAN and LINE WAR Vulture undergoes a sex change from female to male.

Not a question, but more of a statement.

Space Bunnies - make them real! Who wouldn't love to read 'Beatrix Potter with lasers'?

Where do baby Prador come from? You don't seem to have any females. Are they hermaphrodites? I vaguely have this idea of termite-like Prador queens shovelling out millions of eggs, but wouldn't the Prador homeworld not be a kingdom then?

Also, golems. What happens to old series golems when they're supplanted by this years model, they're AI so presumably you can't just decommission them, or do the minds just get reused in new bodies? And what do they do on their days off (do golems get days off?), do they collect stamps or what?

I never really took much note of the "sexes" of the AIs . I figure if they want they can their voice at whim . So a new question - Neal , do AIs have a sex ?
Oh , I second space bunnies !
Hypostomus , I think Orbus goes into some detail into the family structures of the Prador when it goes into the history of the Golgoloth (spelling?) .

One more question ... Dragon is so unlike anything I've ever seen in a book or movie before . What was the inspiration behind it ? Why does it smell like cloves ?

Just finished Shadow of the Scorpion, one of the themes that really shook me up was the expectation that, during the horrific Prador war, human soldiers who were terribly injured both physically and mentally were expected to get back into the fight after the miraculous medical technology of the Polity healed them; no million dollar wounds for these troops. You wrote about the impact of that element of the war very well, especially with regards to the effect on the families of the soldiers, and I've wondered if you had firsthand knowledge or experience with real life elements such as combat fatigue and PTSD.

Hi Neal, do you think that humans will ever reach a utopia that is so often described in sci-fi? Or do you think we are heading more towards a dystopian future?

If you had to reimagine interstellar travel in the Polity a little more realistically with slower than light speed being for extremely patient explorer immortals only and the methane moon of Jupiter and the icy boundaries of our solar system as infinite resources only bounded by Jupiter's and Saturn's and the Sun's unimaginable treasure trove of resources what if anything would need to be changed except for the scale of the distances (solar system) and source of the other intelligent life (Venus, Mars, The Moon, The Oceans)?
