Video Clip

As many of you may know I have done a few video clips in which I answer fan questions. Here's the last one I did, last year. Yes, that ugly bugger is me.

Now, being a glutton for punishment. How about some questions for a new clip, or more? Post them in the comments section.

Please explain string theory and the possible impact of quantum computers on our daily lives. When will we see actual augs become reality?

Joking aside, hows the whole short story experiment on the Kindle going? Any plans on branching out to other ebook sellers (Kobo jumps to mind)?

If someone wanted to start reading all Polity stories. Would you suggest to read them in order of publication or in internal chronological order?

As you're proficient with the video camera, have tempted your followers with hints of your keep-fit regime through dancing to the Wii console, don't you think it's about time to release a keep-fit video for us dedicated fans? We could download and follow your regime, thereby perhaps become fitter, live longer and be able to buy more of your books...

Since you are so far ahead of schedule, will we get to see that fantasy series dusted off sometime soon? I'd love to see what the Asher magic does in the realm of fantasy.

Which technology from any of your books would you most like to see become a reality?

Do a reading of one of your short stories? Or read out an unused section from your 'scifi bits file'.

In your recently published
novella "The Other Gun" you
describe a hive organism that
is able to perpetually renew
itself (barring radical obliteration).

Would you imagine such an
organism being able to
reproduce itself (say in
the manner of an insect
hive founding a new colony)
or would its virtual
immortality make that
unnecessary?

(I'm sorry to be posting
comments anonymously. I don't
mean to be rude; I just
can't figure out how to do
otherwise. Anyway,I'm Ian)

Damn. You said in the clip that there was never a hardback of Line Of Polity. That would explain why I haven't found one. When did the hardbacks start? My first is Cowl.

Do you have a favourite character or book or series of books? and/or which character/book(s) were the most enjoyable for you to work on (and why)?

Thanks mate :)

Living for some of the time on Crete, are there any places you'd recommend going to that aren't on the tourist trail? And which of the tourist hotspots do you think aren't worth seeing?

A serious question now. Do you ever sit at the keyboard and be at a loss over where the story is going or, if about to start a new book, have difficulty in getting it started? Have you, or did you, ever write quite a large amount of content and then decide that it wasn't going the way you wanted and scrap it all? And, if so, what was the most you've ever binned to start again?

How long did the Polity take to develop as an idea? There are hints of it in The Parasite but, in Gridlinked, it seems pretty well thought through.

Also, how far ahead do you make decisions about the events concerning Gabbleducks, Horace Blegg, Hooders, etc. (A bit vague, I know, but no-one likes a spoiler).

Also, have you ever seen an insect in Crete (or the UK) and thought "I have to put that in my book!"?

Okay, I'll have a pop at these over the weekend if I have the time. But more questions are welcome.

What's your opinion on the use of 'decimation'?

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Neal Asher said...

Thanks for the questions people. I'll get onto them next weekend. I missed out this weekend because busy.

KJ Mulder said...

Does that mean we can add some more questions?

Where do short stories fit in? Are they used more as a marketing tool in SF magazines/anthologies as opposed to being a salable item by themselves (unless you put out your own short story collection)?

Neal Asher said...

Yes, do ask more questions. I can always save them for the next video clip along.

Do you ever wish you could go back to an earlier book in a series, and change things to make something in a future book fit better?

Ahh... hope I'm not too late, this stems from a dream I had last night about writing and an idea that grew from it.
Do you think you'd ever be tempted to collaborate on a book with someone?

*cough*
