Neal Asher Video Clip 13/11/11

Here I am again fumbling and bumbling through the questions. If you have questions for me to answer on my next video clip put them in the comments below. Also, try to make your questions concise. If you want to comment about something leading up to a question or inclusive of one, please separate out the questions at the end. Cheers!

An obvious first question; what were you drinking?

Seriously, any chance of more Mason's Rats at all?

One of the most fascinating aspects of your work is the never ending supply of terrifying insectile aliens ready to tear folks apart in any given story. So many creatures with carapaces and pincers and nasty ways of dismembering. Also, the war drones tend to assume insect shapes as well. Is this a conscious theme or perhaps an unconscious way of dealing with a personal phobia?

1) What's your favorite beer?
2) How much thought do you put into character names? I've read posts by other authors where they mention agonizing over character names in an attempt to get it "just right" for the particular setting. Your character names run the full range--for every more esoteric name such as "Formlam" or "Aesop" you have the more mundane "Ron". Do character names evolve to fit the character or do you just pull one out of the air and go with it?

Do you have a full HGV licence?

I'm guessing the answer to this will be "maybe", but I'll ask anyway! Are we likely to see stories concerning the birth of the Polity i.e. The Quiet War and the soft takeoff singularity that puts the AI's in charge?

On the Fermi paradox, considering the vastness of space (You just won't believe how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big it is) I'm 100% sure life IS out there but the sheer distance is ridiculous. I don't think star faring species are prevalent like in Colbey's Humanity's Fire. One more thing, I don't think all alien species would be prone to self-destruction as this is probably one trait which humans alone are characterized by having. I'd like to optimistically believe that most races are altruistic, benevolent.
