That summed it quite nicely, in most cases it seems a movie can screw up a good book when it comes to SciFi. A TV series though can dig into more then just the highlights.
Giger doing a Gabble would be swell, he does that understatement with the eyes that i think would be a real treat to everyone in the world wetting their bed as soon as the lights go out.
Żuławski's movie Possession (1981) had a sort of 'developing' Giger alien that was more like an intestine with understated eyes that barely moved. scary as hell.
