Philip Pullman Article

Thanks to Phil Edwards for pointing this out to me on boingboing, the original article at The Times Online. Here we have Philip Pullman talking about how our freedoms are being destroyed:

The image of this nation that haunts me most powerfully is that of the sleeping giant Albion in William Blake's prophetic books. Sleep, profound and inveterate slumber: that is the condition of Britain today.

We do not know what is happening to us. In the world outside, great events take place, great figures move and act, great matters unfold, and this nation of Albion murmurs and stirs while malevolent voices whisper in the darkness - the voices of the new laws that are silently strangling the old freedoms the nation still dreams it enjoys.

Go and read the whole thing.

Potent stuff. I read it earlier in the day and posted it in a couple of forums.

Mentioned in other places, the Police's prep for a summer of rage mixed with the civil contingencies act 2004 could make for an unpleasant time this year.

Conspiracy theorists are already predicting that Brown will suspend the 2010 election due to civil unrest.

Far fetched maybe, but possible knowing how corrupt our beloved socialist utopian leaders are.

The link doesn't work, nor can I find the article at Times Online.

If one was of a paranoid tendancy then one may think they are watching.

Mmm, error 404 even on the Times website. Not sure what that's all about.

Ahhh, good to know, I already feared it was only available in the UK. And if there really is some kind of sinister reason behind it it won't work - someone in the net will put it up and then hundreds of blogs are going to copy it.

I find it extremely odd as well. If I was more of a computer geek I'd be able to find a 'cached article'. But I'm not so I can't

Check the comments below the boingboing article and you'll find various links to it, though the google cache of it seems to have disappeared too.
